“Mekimi” is a 5-episode drama series based on a best seller book by Noa Yaron-Dayan.
Noa Yaron, born in 1972, was a popular and well-loved host on the IDF radio station.
In the middle of the 1990s she became a religious penitent together with her partner, Yuval Dayan, a film student at the Sam Spiegel film school. In 2007 Noa Yaron-Dayan published “Mekimi”, a semi-autobiographical account of how she and Yuval became believers, turning to the Bresolver branch of Orthodox Judaism.
“Who raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the needy out of the dunghill;” (Psalms)
The series documents five elements from the book, turning them into five meaningful moments in the process of religious penitence.
This is the story of Alma, a young media star living in Tel Aviv in the early 90s, who seems to have it all: money, fame, a great boyfriend, successful friends, and a life running along a sure path to success. But in reality, there is a big, black hole in Alma’s heart. Entering her life and stealing her heart is film student Ben, a dark, mysterious anarchist. The two fall deeply in love, at times appearing to be one another’s salvation, and at other times seeming to pull one another into the depths of oblivion, until they decide to repent and to marry.
